G. David Gearhart, director of the National Lab for the Study of the College President, was interviewed for a newspaper article about the program and its related scholarly journal.
“Ex-UA Chancellor Leads Study of College Leaders” was published Jan. 22, 2018, in print and online versions of the Northwest Arkansas edition and also statewide editions of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, reported by Jaime Adame. Gearhart was 2008-2015 chancellor of the University of Arkansas and remains on the Fayetteville campus as a professor of higher education in the College of Education and Health Professions.
Michael T. Miller, dean of the college who with Gearhart developed the research program, said of the lab, “It’s really a combined series of initiatives to explore how the college presidency works, how it has changed and continues to change, and what research and scholarship exists on the college presidency.”
Gearhart elaborated on the need for the initiative, “I have found that many persons that become CEOs do not have a great deal of knowledge and expertise about the real pressures of the job. I hope the journal might be helpful to people interested in the subject.”
The article noted lab plans include a symposium, speaker series, cataloging research, and compiling biographical sketches of college and university leaders including their insights.
