Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to have had the honor of serving as the Guest Editor for this volume of the Journal of Research on the College President. I have been impressed by both the staff of the National Lab for the Study of the College President with whom I have worked, as well as the incredible group of authors represented in this volume. I have also been very impressed with the University of Arkansas Libraries who have been digitizing and cataloging these articles. A truly professional staff!
This volume of the journal is the first without the founder, G. David Gearhart, serving as the editor. Dr. Gearhart had an incredible career that spanned multiple higher education institutions and private consulting practices, and his passion for understanding higher education leadership is evident in both the Lab’s founding and work as well as the high quality research presented in the journal. Dr. Gearhart retired from the University of Arkansas in the summer of 2022, and his absence on campus is already felt!
This volume includes four articles from some very respected scholars and leaders around the country. Several of the topics cover critical, timely issues, such as mental health and gender equality, and two of the other topics represent growing trends that leaders must address. These four accepted and published papers are 25% of the submissions received this year. We are grateful to the 16 authors who submitted original work for possible publication in the journal and hope that they, along with others, will continue to consider the journal as an outlet for their academic work.
We hope that the original research presented here will help continue the critical conversation about higher education leadership.
Sincerely,
Daniel P. Nadler
